For me, Lester Jay, Al Green’s legacy is deeply personal. Growing up in Forrest City, Arkansas, where Al Green was a hometown hero, his music became a part of the soundtrack of my life. My mother introduced me to his soulful melodies during our family car rides, and it was through those moments that I first felt the power of music to connect us. Those rides were more than just journeys—they were lessons in love, happiness, and the beauty of music.

On October 23, at the Epiphany Center for the Arts, we will celebrate Al Green’s extraordinary legacy, and I am honored to do so on my mother’s birthday. This event is not just a tribute to Al Green’s influence on the world, but also a way for me to honor the life-changing impact his music had on my family, and especially on my relationship with my mother. Through this tribute, we will come together to cherish the memories, music, and joy that Al Green has brought into our lives.
